Introduction to Metal Clay
A comprehensive one day workshop designed to teach everything you need to know and a little bit more... This practical course includes handling and storing the clay, torch and kiln firing, polishing and texturing to create beautiful Fine Silver or Copper Jewellery. During the day you will be able to create a pair of earrings and a pendant. All you need to bring are some great project ideas.

New Style Certification Programme by The PMC Studio
The flexible new style Certification programme allows you to choose the Module you want to do during any Certification session. Suitable for those who have completed the Introduction to PMC or Creative Copper Clay, each module takes two days to complete and is taught in small groups.
Time: 10am to 4pm.
Module A
Projects/Techniques
- Band ring – Learn how to make a strong, durable ring that will withstand daily wear.
- Decorated bead - Make a stunning solid decorated bead.
- Stud Earrings – Combine the beauty of PMC with the strength of Sterling Silver to create a pair of earrings.
*Clay allowance: 16g PMC3 and a PMC3 Paste
Module B
Projects/Techniques
- Textured pendant - Includes creating your own moulds and simple gemstone setting.
- Domed bead/pendant - Make a hollow bead using our dry construction technique. Can also be worn as a pendant.
- Ceramic or glass cabouchon - Combine ready fired ceramics or glass cabouchons with PMC to make an unusual pendant.
*Clay allowance: 25g PMC3 and a pot of PMC3 Paste
The PMC Studio Extended Certification programme
Each module is offered on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis and is designed to address a different skill or approach. Combined, the modules provide a broad spectrum of skills for use with PMC for both personal and professional development. We believe in flexible learning. As such, our modular curriculum means you can complete any module, in any order, at any time and in any location on dates that are suitable to you. Each module takes 2 days to complete and consists of an intensive programme.
Modules available:
Module 1 - Naturals
This module looks at using the natural, clay like Properties of Precious Metal Clay and combining them with natural, organic materials such as leaves, twigs & pods.
Projects:
- Textured pendant - Includes creating your own moulds and simple gemstone setting.
- Glass pendant - Learn to set a glass cabochon in PMC and fire allowing for the shrinkage.
- Band ring – Learn how to make a strong, durable ring that will withstand daily wear.
- Decorative clasp - Create a two part clasp combining PMC and Silver wire.
- Domed bead - Make a hollow bead using dry construction techniques. Can also be worn as a pendant.
- Hollow free form - Use wood clay to create any shape hollow form.
Module 2 - High finish
This module is about achieving a professional finish.
Learn the tricks of the trade to achieve this all of the time on all work.
Projects:
- Japanese enamels - An introduction to using fine Japanese hot enamels.
- High shine mirror finish - Learn to polish your PMC so you can see your own reflection in your work.
- Ring with bezel setting - Create a silver bezel in PMC to create a setting for items that cannot be fired.
- Ceramics - Combine PMC with bisque to create a beautiful solid decorated bead.
- Ceramics - Combine ready fired ceramics with PMC.
- PMC 22K Gold - Learn to combine PMC gold with Silver.
Module 3 - Innovative design
This module is about Incorporating new elements into your PMC.
Projects:
- Dry construction open box bead with 24K gold - Create an open box bead and decorate using the Korean technique of Keum Boo.
- Syringe drawing - Master the syringe to create intricate, detailed designs that are structurally sound.
- Photopolymer printing - Make your own re-usable stamps for adding texture to your PMC pieces.
- Chain making - Make strong textured chain with PMC.
- Ring with natural gemstone set in PMC - Enhance your rings with a natural gemstone.
- PMC and Sterling Silver – Learn to combine PMC with Sterling Silver without the need for soldering.
- Colour effects on PMC - Use Liver of Sulphur to create different colours effects on PMC.
