Metal Clay is created using finely ground silver particles, water and a non-toxic organic binder by Mitsubishi Materials Corporation in Japan. This process creates an exceptional quality finished product which is 99% pure silver, purer even than sterling silver.
The easy ability of Metal Clay to be moulded or sculpted, means it is absolutely ideal to create patterns and textures. Another great advantage of Metal Clay is its ability to be re-fired many times. This ensures that it has the ability to be added to any existing piece any time. A good example of this would be, if you are making a ring, you can create the band and the top of the ring separately, these can then be put together, using paste, before or after firing. The huge bonus from this is that if you don’t like the result, you are able to change it as many times as you like without weakening the structure of the finished product.
Metal Clay can be combined with any other metals ranging from copper and brass to gold and platinum. In addition to this, Metal Clay can also be combined with glass and ceramics - basically with any material that can withstand a constant heat of 600°C.
Many of the country’s top jewellery designers will testify to the seemingly endless possibilities in regards to design options presented by Metal Clay and because of this we believe that you will never look back after you after you try this market leading substance.
